This speaker provides nice sound and is easy to connect to the monitor and the computer. As some note, there is no volume control on the speaker, but who needs it. All my CDs and DVDs are played through a media player with volume control anyway. I like that when I hook the Xbox 360 to the HDMI port the sound plays through the speaker without any other connections needed.
These reviews shed that much more light on the matter. I purchased the Gateway FHD2400 specifically for the universal inputs (For video presentations at conventions) and was told that this exclusive speaker bar was sold separately. After numerous calls to Gateway for an answer to the "out of stock" status at every retailer I contacted for this exclusive speaker bar, I finally learned from a very reluctant Gateway customer service rep that this accessory was discontinued because it wasn't selling. I should have referred to these reviews before my monitor purchase. Buy at your own risk.
NO VOLUME CONTROL ON THE SPEAKER. The sound quality of these speakers is quite adequate for the casual kind of listening that most PC users routinely do. Serious "audiophiles" would know better than to buy this type of speaker, in this price range, anyway. So, what's my main gripe here. For pity sakes, Gateway, who in product development counseled this cheap s**t decision. OK, you can control if from software, but this blows chunks.DON'T BUY THESE SPEAKERS, folks.
The GOOD: If you are just needing a good sound on a computer to save space while maintaining a home office look, this is for you. If you are a gamer and want Bigger and Stronger sound, this is not for you. Conclusion: If I want powerful sound I will use my other computer. We have a really nice home office and I didn't want to put more things on the desk and a sub tucked away in a corner. The BAD: Not that powerful, not enough bass. As I said, for the room I am putting it in, it is great. If you want to have a nice sound in your room/office while doing work, this is for you. Great space saver. Thanks,MaliciousRCdot
